Sink or SING! An Interactive Cabaret - Adelaide Fringe Review
Sink or SING! is a powerhouse cabaret performance with vocal coach Amelie Peters and a six-piece band with an interactive twist.
Peters has written a variety of soulful and quirky original songs, which you as the audience have an opportunity to sing along to whilst being taught a brief crash course into training your vocal chords and holding notes.
Behind the fun lyrics of her original songs are however, much more vulnerable stories and thoughts. She’s a firm believer in the power of music and her songs tell us about some of her self-discovery journeys in life, such as indulging in guilty pleasures, swearing by a skincare routine, dating apps, being a passenger princess, holes in your clothes, and Australian nostalgia.
Peters bursts out onto the stage in a be-dazzled co-ord set, personalised emotional support water bottle, and pink robe. She has an infectious personality and stage presence as your self-proclaimed ‘’emotionally unstable fairy godmother”, which consists of being one part sassy, one part bratty, and one part self deprecating.
Audience participation can either be pretty nerve-wracking or the best moment of your Fringe-audience career, but Peters makes it a safe and interactive space where there’s no judgement at all.
As you'll be singing along from the comfort of your chair with your fellow show-goers, Peters also shares a sprinkle of her vocal coaching expertise throughout the entire show to make sure you’re hitting all the right notes yourself and having a ball of a time at this hoot of a singing party.
Peters is not afraid to let it all out and belt out her tunes. You'll be in awe of how she manages to hit all the right notes, including some seriously high and long ones. Her vocals are nothing short of world-class in this performance.
If her performance doesn’t encourage you to let loose and own the moment, then I don’t know what will. This is such a heartfelt, sassy, and vulnerable hour with Peters which will have her bops be stuck in your head for days or weeks after you’ve seen her perform, as they’re so darn catchy.
