FRANKLY: DOOM BOX - Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Review

DOOM BOX can only be described as a cynical, melodramatic rendition of many, many songs which are self proclaimed to be unrelated to one another.
Out comes the star of the night, FRANKLY, dressed oh so snazzily in a cliche cabaret aesthetic with some fancy pants and suspenders.
These unrelated melodies are interwoven with some seriously witty jokes and skits, making for a perfect recipe of brilliant cabaret and multiple existential crises in between.
Her original songs delve into a assortment of autobiographical stories about ex partners, religiously queer awakenings, lifelong memories and recollections, modern feminism, and overall randomness.
Her songwriting, musical, and vocal range abilities shine strongly throughout the performance, without missing a beat at all. A heap of sudden pauses, twists, and turns tie all of the nuanced chaos together in a neat little package.
With all of the astounding and bizarre lyrics in many of her songs, you do seriously question whether much of it is fact, or fiction. We do get reassurance through, that it's all based on true events (which makes it all of the better).
All in all, it's an expertly crafted cabaret brain dump of a very intimate and up-close night with FRANKLY. It's much recommended that you relieve your bladder before the show starts, because it's an absolute hoot of a time!
